BioGRAPHY

A graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin State Music School (Piano), the Cours Florent in Paris (Acting), and the Ludwik Solski State Drama School in Cracow (Stage Directing), Ewa Rucińska achieved her first directorial successes in Paris, receiving the Prize Jacques 2013 for her debut Sandpit and the P’tit Molière Prize for The Game of Love and Chance in 2017.

She has gained extensive experience across Europe as an assistant director for major opera productions, collaborating with renowned directors such as Romeo Castellucci, Laurent Pelly, Simon Stone, and Mariusz Treliński. These projects took place at prestigious venues and festivals, including La Monnaie in Brussels, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, and the Polish National Opera in Warsaw.

In 2019, she was selected for the Academy of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence (Young Opera Makers program). Since her mainstage debut with the production Secret Life of Paintings, she has directed several opera productions at major Polish institutions, including the Polish National Opera in Warsaw, the Grand Theatre in Łódź, and Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz. Several of her stagings have been broadcast internationally on the OperaVision platform.

Most recently, Ewa and her creative team were honored with the Fedora Prize 2025 Audience Award for her latest project, Hôtel Moctezuma, which is slated for its French premiere at the Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier Occitanie in April 2027.

Her work has earned significant critical acclaim, including the Grand Prix at the Forum of Young Directors and the Award for Outstanding Young Artist from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Her productions are also featured in the repertoires of leading dramatic theaters, such as the Słowacki Theatre in Cracow and STUDIO teatrgaleria in Warsaw.

Alongside her artistic career, she is an academic lecturer for opera singers at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (UMFC) in Warsaw. She is a member of the Guild of Polish Theatre Directors.

She is the author of the adaptations, translations, and scripts for the majority of her productions.

She’s a member of the Polish Guide of Theater Directors.
